We're one of the poorest counties in Georgia.
The closest regional hospitals are 40 miles away in Alabama or 60 miles in Georgia.
I'm the only provider in the county.
I've been the only medical provider here for the last 13 years now.
I'll retire at some point, and unless there's some kind of structure, somebody has responsibility for healthcare here, there won't be any healthcare here.
- [Doctor] You gotta quit smoking - I'm working on that for sure.
- [Doctor] People cannot afford to pay for healthcare.
That is the reality here.
We'll continue to see people regardless of their ability to pay.
- Okay, you're good.
- [Patient] Thank you for being my doctor.
- [Doctor] Well, you're welcome.
I can't abandon my individual patients and knowing that they're not gonna get the care that they need.
