It's gotta be around here somewhere.
You know where the Rootle Remote is?

Read-a-roo has the Rootle Remote.

And now, introducing your super talented hosts, Miss E and Miss Shana.
- Hi everybody!
Welcome to Rootle's Block Party Live at Home!
- Hey friends!
We're celebrating five fun, wonderful years of Rootle this year!
Can you believe that Rootle has been around for five years already?
Amazing!
Let's high five our friends, Miss E!
Oh!
Miss E!
What are you doing over there?
- I have some big news to share with you and our friends at home.
I have to pack up everything because I'm moving to be near my grandma.
- Wow!
That is big news!
- And I'm excited, because I love my grandma.
But I'm also a little nervous about moving to a new place and I even have to move my fish, Douglas.
And, I'm a little sad about leaving good friends like you.
What if I won't be able to do Block Party Live at Home anymore?
- Wow.
You have a lot of big feelings about moving.
- I do.
Do you ever have emotions?
Like being excited or nervous or sad?
Sometimes it's hard to know what to do, right?
- Miss E, even though you're moving away, we'll still be able to stay in touch no matter what!
And, we'll still be able to do Block Party Live together!
- You're right, Miss Shana!
I'm so happy to have friends like you to share my big feelings with.
- Well, that's why we're friends.
When I felt sad, you taught me how to calm down by blowing big, [Miss Shana exhales] imaginary [Miss Shana exhales] bubbles.
- That's right!
I did!
- And now, I'm going to show you another way to calm down by stretching in your chair.
Stretching is a great way to feel better.
Let me see if I can stretch a little faster!
[Miss Shana spins] - Miss Shana!
I think you're spinning a little too fast!
[spinning noise continues] - Woo!
I think you're right!
Woo!
I need to find a different way to calm down.
- I think this might be a good time to visit our friends at Mountain Sun Community School in Brevard, North Carolina.
They have some great ideas to help us calm down and make us feel better.
[crowd cheering] - Hi.
My name is Clare Desmelik and I'm a teacher at Mountain Sun Community School.
I'm going to share with you a few mindful breath techniques that you can do, as well as some mindful movements to help ease some stress and anxieties.
Think about your breath as your very best friend that's always, always with you.
Just notice the quality of your breath first.
Take a big breath in through your nose and exhale through your mouth.
And then just see if you can intentionally try to make it a little deeper and a little smoother.
Breathing in through the nose and out through the mouth.
We'll add some movement to that.
So, we're going to take our arms out nice and wide on our inhale breath, and then we're just going to slowly ground the hands down, right in front of our face.
Nice and slow, just bringing us back down to Earth.
Inhale breath, reach as the arms up and then exhale, grounding hands down.
You can also use a word.
Our thoughts become action.
So assign a word, some feeling that you would like to feel, you can assign it with your breath and let it ride in and out with your breath.
So, for example, I am calm.
I am present.
I am brave.
Take a big breath in, with I am.
I am calm.
I am brave.
I am present.
You can also do a twist and you could do this in a chair or you could do it standing up.
So, we'll rainbow back our arms and we'll do it on each side.
And then you'll twist from your belly, almost like you're wringing out any kind of tension that you might feel in your belly.
Rainbow back the arm, grab a hold of the back of the chair, and just twist.
Come back through center.
And then do it on the other side.
A big rainbow back of that arm, a nice twist in the belly.
And then come back through center.
Another move that feels really nice and allows you to feel like you're letting go of anything that might be worrying you or causing you some stress, is a basic forward fold.
And you can do this in your chair as well, just folding over your lap if that feels nice.
So you'll raise your arms up over your head and then hinge forward at the hips.
And as you fold down, imagine you're taking a little time out, or I like to call it, a time in.
And then let all the worries just roll off of your back at the bottom of the fold.
Allow your head just to shake.
Just feel like you're letting it all go.
[calm instrumental music] Then roll back to standing.
- That felt great!
Thank you Mountain Sun Community School!
You know, paying attention to how you feel is very important whenever you're having big emotions, like being angry or afraid or sad.
But there's something else I like to do, too.
[tool box clicks] I reach inside my feel good tool box!
It's filled with tools that I use whenever I need help with my big emotions.
This is my breathing tool.
Breathing through big emotions is important because it helps me calm myself.
To use the breathing tool, we're going to slowly breathe in, hold our breath while we count the three butterflies, and then we'll breathe out.
Are you ready to try it with me?
- [Children In Unison] Yes!
- Okay, great.
Just do what I do.
[breath inhales] And exhale.
[breath exhales] Good job!
Now I feel calmer and more relaxed.
♪ When I have big feelings ♪ ♪ And not sure what to do ♪ ♪ I reach into my tool box ♪ ♪ For things to get me through ♪ [Miss E exhales] And now it's time to get up and get moving with our friend Tiffany Santeiro from Brevard, North Carolina.

But first, I need you to go get something for me.
Will you go get a scarf or a ribbon?
Really anything that can be an extension of your body as we move.
[playful instrumental music] Wonderful.
Well each day, we move through many different emotions and each of those emotions feel differently in our bodies.
Can you think of a time when you felt happy?
Now begin to move your body and your scarf or fabric in a happy way.
Now pay attention to the way your body is moving.
Let's create a light, big movement that moves high in the air!
How about a big circle way over our heads?
[playful instrumental music continues] That's wonderful!
Next, can you think of a time when you felt sad?
Now begin to move your body and your fabric in a sad way.
[playful instrumental music continues] Now let's create a slow, low, very heavy line right at the ground.
Let's put those two movements together!
We have our big happy circle over our head and our line down by the ground.
All right, next, can you think of a time when you felt angry?
And begin to move your body and your fabric in an angry way!
Now let's create a movement that is huge and powerful and heavy.
How 'bout a giant zig-zag, right in front of your body.
[playful instrumental music continues] Now last, and my personal favorite, think of a time when you felt silly!
And begin to move your body and your fabric in a silly way.
[playful instrumental music continues] Let's create a movement that is super fast, light, and moves all the way through the space!
How about a little zig-zag that turns around?
[playful instrumental music continues] Oh, wonderful.
Let's put together our big, happy circle over our head, our sad line down by the ground, our big, giant zig-zags, and then finally, turning in space!
[playful instrumental music continues] And then you can add your own movements with your fabric!
Think about how you feel right now.
Well, it was wonderful exploring emotions with you today and I hope you remember that every emotion is important and that you can pay attention to how they feel differently in your body.

My name is Althea Dunn and I'm with Pisgah Collective which is an outdoor preschool program based in Pisgah Forest, North Carolina.
We are right on the edge of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Right now we are in our class garden and this is a very, very special place for us because we get to learn and grow along with all of the plants that are around us.
Did you know that every living thing has a life cycle?

We love to sing it here at Pisgah Collective and it's all about planting seeds.
The first thing you need to do is scoop up some dirt.
Maybe there's some compost from your food scraps.
I think I feel a earth worm wiggling around in there.
Then, you get to think of anything you'd like to plant.
Maybe a watermelon seed, maybe a carrot seed.
Let's sing about what it means to grow.
♪ First you plant the seed and you sprinkle it with love ♪ ♪ Then the sun comes out and shines from up above ♪ ♪ The rain comes from the clouds and soaks into the roots ♪ ♪ And then the plants grow strong just like me and you ♪ What a beautiful song!
You can help a seed grow at your own home too with this next activity.
These are the things you'll need.
A baggie, a paper towel, some water.
I have a bucket of water.
You could use a cup, you could use a bowl.
You could use a spray bottle.
Whatever you choose.
And a seed.
Get your paper towel really wet so when you pull it out.
See those drips?
That's really good.
Because that seed needs water.
The next thing you need is a clear baggie of some sort.
Put the paper towel inside the baggie and you're going to open it up because the seed needs air.
Find your seed and keep it so safe.
And you get to put it on the paper towel just like that.
You're going to find a sunny spot in your house and you're going to watch your seed get what it needs, so that it can grow!
And then, after you wait and are patient, you might get to see your seed grow into a plant!
This one's ready to go into some dirt.
This bean seed has a life cycle just like we do.
When it starts getting the things that it needs, like water and light, it might start to sprout.
And then, if it keeps getting what it needs, it might get bigger and grow even more.
Let's see what happens next!
It gets even bigger!
The roots grow, the seed shoots above the ground.
This is called the stem, and something is coming out of it.
Do you know what that's called?
A leaf!
And then if it gets everything it needs, it's a bean plant!
It has full roots holding it in the ground, letting it drink some water.
All of these leaves are up above.
And do you know what this plant will do next?
It will grow flowers that turn to fruit that produce more seeds!
So that you can grow even more bean plants.
Sometimes change can be scary and hard, and that's okay too.
Just like this seed has tools to protect itself, like it's skin, we have tools too.
I think one of the most important ones is our heart that's filled with love and ready to share that love whenever you need to or to have some of that love for yourself whenever you might need it.
Thank you so much for joining me in my class garden and I hope you have a wonderful day.

- Well, I'm all packed and I don't feel so nervous anymore about moving because I've practiced meeting new friends with Douglas, I've got my feel good tool box, and I know that I can still be a part of Block Party Live at Home, no matter where I am!
- Aren't you forgetting something?
- Oh, yes.
And I'm also taking my fish Douglas with me to make my new place feel like home.
- Oh!
I see that you and Douglas are ready to move!
- Yes we sure are!
- Terrific.
Well before you go, did you get that going away present that I sent Douglas?
Oh!
Is that what this is?
That's so sweet of you, Miss Shana!
- I asked myself, what would I want if I lived in the water?
And then I answered myself, I would want a floatie!
Just give me a second to blow it up.
[Miss Shana blows into a tube] - Um.
Miss Shana?
I don't think... [blowing noise continues] Miss Shana?
Miss Shana!
- Yes Miss E?
- How can we fit the floatie into Douglas' fish bowl?
- How can we fit the floatie into the fish bowl?
Hmmmmmm.
That's a great question!
I don't know!
- What?
Well, while Miss Shana figures out how to get a little more room, let's visit our friends, who will give us more tools for our feel good tool box, Safe from Bervard, North Carolina.
- Oh, and ask them if they know how to take the air out of a flamingo floatie.
[crowd cheering] - Hi!
My name is Gina and I work at Safe in Bervard, North Carolina.
I work with the kids here to help them manage their big feelings.
Today, I'm going to teach you three things that you can do anytime, anywhere to help you manage your big feelings.
The first thing that I want to share with you today is counting down using our five senses.
This is a grounding technique and we use this to get big feelings out of our brain and out into the world.
So the way that we do it, is by first finding five different things that you can see around you right now.
So look around and see what five things you can find.
After you've found five things you can look for four surfaces that you can touch that are around you right now.
After you've found four surfaces to touch, think of three things that you can hear, so listen close and hear what sounds you can hear.
And after you've found those sounds, it's time to find two things that you can smell.
The last thing that we're going to do is find one thing that you can taste.
Maybe you just had a drink of water or maybe you just had a snack.
But just try to think of one thing that you can taste.
And now, we have counted down from five and we've used this tool to come out of our bodies and brains and into the world with our big feelings.
The second tool that I want to share with you today, is hand tracing breathing.
We can take deep breaths in order to calm our bodies and to focus our minds and to help us manage big feelings.
So we're going to start with our hand up and we'll inhale, take a deep breath in as we trace the outside of our finger, and then we'll exhale, or take a big breath out, as we trace it down our fingers.
So let's see if we can do it together.
We're going to start here with our thumb and take a big deep breath in.
[inhaling and exhaling] Now onto our next finger.
[inhaling and exhaling] Good.
[inhaling and exhaling] One more time.
[inhaling and exhaling] And then our last finger, our pinky.
[inhaling and exhaling] And don't worry if your body doesn't feel all the way calm yet because you can always do this again and again until you feel better.
You can also do this anywhere and anytime that you want to.
You can do it on the bus.
You can do it in the car.
You can do it with your friends.
It's very easy.
So just remember that when you start to feel those big feelings, you can trace your hand and take your deep breaths until your body starts to feel calm again.
Another way that we can help manage our emotions, is by naming them.
So one way that we can get to know our feelings, is by looking in the mirror and seeing what our face looks like.
Sometimes if you're happy, you'll smile and you'll be laughing, but if you're sad, you might be frowning or crying, and if you're angry, your fist might be clenched and your eyebrows might look like this.
And all of those emotions are okay but when we name them, we can understand what to do next to help us feel better.
Thank you so much for doing these activities with me today.
Now we can all use these tools and techniques to help us manage our big feelings and emotions.
- Ooooo.
Miss E. I like your new home.
- Thank you!
I like it too.
It just doesn't really feel like our old place just yet.
- Miss E, maybe you should look in the feel good tool box to see if there's something in there to help you feel better.
- That is a great idea, Miss Shana!
Patience.
Aaaah, this is my patience tool.
And that means that you're strong enough to wait for something.
- And remember, it takes time to get used to a new place and new people.
- That's right.
And being able to wait patiently is very important.
Miss Shana, you reminded me that I am strong enough to wait until I get used to my new home.
- Well I'm happy to help.
But now I can't wait to see more Xavier Riddle!
- [Young Child] Let's watch!
- Team Turtle is ready!
- Team Rooster is ready.
- Everyone ready?
And... go!
[fast paced instrumental music] [roosters caw] - Whoa!
Okay Yadina, switch!
- Turbo turtle speed.
Weeeeee!
- Switch.
Go Catherine!
- Whoa, whoa.
Phew.
- The wheel.
We can't let it fall!
[fast paced instrumental music continues] - Uh oh.
Whoa!
Sorry!
- Whoa, little chicks!
- Excuse me!
- Come on, Dr. Zoom.
Top turtle speed!
Go Brad!
- We're almost there!
- A-a-a-a-choo!
[wheel crashes] - Team Rooster wins!
- We did it!
[team cheers] Good job, Team Rooster!
- We won!
Wahoo!
- What a finish!
Great race, Brad.
- You too!
- I think Brad's doing it.
He's going to make a new friend!
- Uuuum.
[Brad's Thought] Getting to know people is a great way to make friends.
- So.
What else do you like to do?
- Uh.
I like collecting things.
Colorful stuff!
See?
- Cool!
I love colorful stuff, too!
Especially tie dye.
- What's that?
Wow.
That's amazing!
[bell rings] - Ah, I have to go.
But this was fun.
See you later, friend!
- Bye!
- See you!
- Brad.
That was wonderful.
- I got to know Mateus.
And we became friends.
Think it will work at day camp?
- Totally.
- Okay.
I am ready for camp.
Thanks for everything, Catherine!
- [Narrator] If you want to watch more Xavier Riddle and the Secret Museum, tune in weekdays at 12:30 and 5:30 PM only on Rootle.
- Now let's explore what we just saw.
Brad made a new friend with Mateus and learned how to meet new people.
So what do you think he'll do when he goes to day camp?
I think so, too!
Brad is going to meet new people and make new friends!
Now let's visit our friends the Jones family and see how they show their feelings through drawing.
- [Young Child] Let's play!
- Hello.
My name is Olivia and these are my sisters, Lillian and Pearl, and today I'm going to be showing pictures of faces.
The first one is a sad face.
And now the second one is a mad face.
The third one is a happy face.
Can you draw emotions?
- [Young Child] Let's share!
- When I'm feeling sad, I go to my mommy and get a hug.
When I'm feeling mad, I need a quiet time by myself.
When I'm feeling happy, I like to dance.
[upbeat dance music] - Olivia did a wonderful job drawing her emotions.
And Miss Shana and I are going to try it, too!
Hey, do you want to join us?
Okay, great.
So we're going to use our finger to draw a face.
First, we're going to draw a circle.
Nice job!
Now let's draw a sad face.
Very good!
That looks like a very sad face.
Now let's use our finger to draw a mad face.
Good job!
That looks just like a mad face.
Now let's use our finger to draw a happy face, my favorite!
Yes!
That is a very, very happy face!
Miss Shana.
Are you ready to show us the face that you drew?
- Oh!
Uh, hold on just a second.
Okay.
Now I'm ready!
Ta-da!
[drawing laughs] - Oh my goodness, that's amazing!
I can almost hear your drawing laughing.
[Miss E, Miss Shana, and drawing laugh] Hearing your drawing is actually making me laugh, too.
[all three continue laughing] - Me too!
I didn't know I was this funny!
My art teacher taught me how to make the drawing laugh, but she never taught me how to make it stop!
- Oh no!
Well, while we figure out how to get our laughter under control, let me introduce you to Mr. R, from PBS North Carolina's Classroom Connection!
[all three continue laughing] - What's goin' on, super learners?
It's Mr. R. And we've been spending some amazing time together.
And I know that this last year has been such an adventure.
But I just want you to know, no matter what you're going through, you're going to be just fine.
