Well, the push to expand commuter rail service to Sussex County is still on.

Congressman Josh Gottheimer led a group of rail officials to Andover yesterday where work is underway to build a new train station that will be served by New Jersey Transit's restoration of the Lackawanna Cut-Off.

It's a rail line that was built in the early 1900s.

Part of a main line between Hoboken and Buffalo, New York.

The restoration is expected to be done in 2026 and could eventually be part of the new Amtrak service connecting New York City to Scranton.

While the route is projected to generate about $80 million in economic activity each year, a big reason why Amtrak selected it as a candidate to study.

If approved, Amtrak officials say that service to Scranton could begin as soon as 2028.

We've been working for years to get a train stop here and to get Amtrak to run all the way from New York to Pennsylvania through this area.
