[energetic music] - I am Laura Blythe.
I am the Program Director at the Cherokee Historical Association.
But I am also a lover of the mountain bike life.
[energetic music continues] - I'm Jeremy Hyatt, Secretary of Operations for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and Land Manager of Fire Mountain Trails here on the Qualla Boundary in Western North Carolina.
- [Laura Blythe] The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians is a native tribe located in Cherokee, North Carolina.
We reside on the Qualla Boundary, which is part of our ancestral homelands.
- [Jeremy Hyatt] The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians built Fire Mountain Trails.
It is some of the best flow trails in Western North Carolina.
[energetic music continues] - [Laura Blythe] My hope for the EBCI youth is to spark their curiosity.
I have two children.
And I try to get them out as much as I possibly can just to stay active and to stay in nature and have a connection to our culture.
- [Jeremy Hyatt] We're very lucky that we have the resources that we have.
And they're not only for commercial success.
They are for our local tribal citizens, for their health, their wellbeing, for their quality of life.
The next 20 years, I'd like to see four times as many trails.
We got about 11, 12 miles right now.
I would like to see four times that much.
I think the future is bright for the Eastern Band and for the Qualla Boundary as it relates to outdoor activities.
