[gentle music] - Some of the best paddle experiences in my opinion are on the Lower Roanoke.
The thing that appeals to me most is the solitude that a person can experience as well as the opportunity to see wildlife.
My first experience on the Roanoke River was sometime around my age of 12.
I went out on a small homemade boat that my dad had built.
Been fascinated with the river since that time, and over the years I've had opportunity to explore it.
[paddle splashing gently] I've been providing guide services for 22 seasons, I have served hundreds of paddlers, and every one agrees that the experience here on the Lower Roanoke is unique.
The Roanoke River demands a lot of respect.
Native Americans referred to it as the Moratoc because of the dangers that existed, especially during times of flood.
At the same time, it can be very peaceful and tranquil.
[gentle music continues] [animals chittering] Paddling and camping on the Lower Roanoke is unique.
There's nowhere else like it.
I would like for people to think of the Roanoke River as being an exciting place to come, be a place that you can enjoy the outdoors.
