AND SHE IS KIND OF MAKING ONE RIGHT NOW.
IT'S A LITTLE QUIETER VERSION OF IT, SO IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO HEAR.
BUT THEY CAN BE HEARD QUITE A DISTANCE AWAY.
THEY COULD DO IT TO FIND FAMILY MEMBERS, FIND POTENTIAL MATES, OR JUST, OVERALL, JUST SAY, "HEY, I'M HERE."
[laughs] THESE BIRDS ARE NOT NATIVE TO NORTH AMERICA, BUT THEY ARE FOUND ON 2 SEPARATE CONTINENTS.
THEY ARE FOUND IN SOUTH AMERICA AS WELL AS AFRICA.
NOW, DESPITE BEING SEPARATED BY THE ATLANTIC OCEAN, BOTH POPULATIONS OF WHITE-FACED WHISTLING DUCKS ARE GENETICALLY IDENTICAL.
AND THAT'S KIND OF AN AMAZING FEAT, WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT IT.
NORMALLY, WHEN ANIMALS ARE SEPARATED BY SUCH A VAST OBSTACLE SUCH AS AN OCEAN OR A LARGE MOUNTAIN RANGE, YOU DO TYPICALLY SEE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE 2 POPULATIONS OF ANIMALS, WHETHER IT'S ONE'S LARGER, SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT COLORS, OR THINGS LIKE THAT, BUT FOR THE WHITE-FACED WHISTLING DUCK, NOTHING REALLY HAS CHANGED.
AND SO, BOTH POPULATIONS ARE CONSIDERED THE SAME.
NOW, JUST LIKE MOST WATERFOWL, THESE BIRDS ARE FOUND IN SWAMPY MARSH AREAS.
