[warm music] - I remember the first time I ever went to the seashore, and it was like, "This is the place that I need to be."
I consider myself a coastal naturalist because I have an insatiable curiosity about all things that are related to the coast.
You look at a seashell and you wanna know a little about the animal, not just this beautiful shell that you have in your hand.
What about that animal and the animal that made that shell?
What kind of life did it live and what kind of food does it eat?
[warm music continues] I consider myself a coast walker, and that's because I love walking on the beach.
My husband and I, we were walking on the beach, and I said, "You know, it's time that we walk every barrier island," and my husband took a minute and he goes, "Okay."
And so we started at Sunset Beach at the South Carolina/North Carolina border and walked 21 barrier islands all the way to the North Carolina/Virginia border.
I guess you could say that we took romantic long walks on the beach to another level.
[warm music continues] The Sugarloaf Trail is a unique North Carolina trail because there are so many different ecosystems and biomes that you move through, a wetland marsh, you have a pocosin area, and you have longleaf pine forest.
It seems like every 20 yards or so, you come around a corner and something's totally different, and that's what makes Sugarloaf such a unique trail to hike.
