Colleen it's not the most exciting primary season here in New Jersey but right now the GOP has some of the more closely watched races does the GOP do Republicans stand to pick up some seats right now so that's what they think and that's why some of these are so close um you know down in the Third District you've got Edward Durr Ed the trucker the man who famously unseated the Senate President two years ago facing a challenge from his own assemblywoman Beth Sawyer so that's a a really interesting race now jurors got more money he's got the backing of the party he's probably got the advantage it's interesting because she ran on the ticket with him in 2021 what are they fighting over what are the what's the tone down there we're seeing around the state it's the kind of competition to be the most conservative it is yes in most cases now and I think she wants to be the most conservative as well but what she's saying is that he's just kind of too far out there that he's made a number of statements many of which we know already that just have offended a lot of people so she's saying that given that he's really not the right person for the district and he could lose with the Democrats now on alert because they know the they didn't know two years ago that they had to look at this race and and they should have tell us what's happening in District 24. so up in the 24th district in Sussex County that's where you've got the the two tickets that are really fighting to be the more conservative you've got uh Fantasia and in Gangnam in ganymore who are um they're the endorsed candidates and so they're the ones that you would think probably have you know the the advantage but the other two candidates you know one is a Warren County Commissioner certainly also have name recognitions so they they've been really nasty out there trying to out you know out mud throw one another we've got in District uh 27 the matchup between Senators Nia Gill and Dick Cody former Governor dick Cody just today Governor Murphy came out and endorsed Cody as we've seen all along the party line really holds strong what do you expect to happen here and what are the implications yeah you know this should be really kind of like the biggest race that we're looking at but it's been so quiet really everything is on Cody's side every endorsement you know on the one hand you could say did Murphy come out today because Cody's in trouble or just that it was a strategic thing that they wanted Murphy's endorsement to come out right before the election I mean Nia Gill does not even have a a website a campaign website so it's just odd that that it's been so quiet uh Cody also has some more money um and certainly what happens if if Cody wins and we lose needle we lose a really strong um African-American woman in the in the Senate and there are not enough women and there are not enough African-Americans in the in the Senate certainly so that would be a loss there I would think that it's safe to say that by the end of the cycle we will have fewer women uh in the next legislature than we do currently and just quickly when we talk about voter turnout primaries are historically low what do you expect tomorrow what should people do yeah you know probably a half a million people are going to vote all together but a lot of them have already voted early voting in person finished um yesterday and we've had a lot of more than 200 000 mail-in ballots but every normal polling place is going to be open you know all those coveted rules are gone so people should certainly go out there because these are important races you know six six a.m to 8 pm uh it's on the absentee excuse me the sample ballot that got sent to your house you know where you should be going to vote if not there are certainly ways places you can look for it online um but I would definitely say people please go out and vote Colleen O'Day good advice thank you as always thank you Joanna [Music] [Music]
