The song "Waiomina" is one of those great Hawaiian songs which takes place in the early 20th Century and tells the story of two local boys from Waimea, on the Big Island of Hawai'i and their journey to the state of Wyoming for the World Rodeo Championships.
And to everyone's surprise, they walked away with the "World's Greatest Cowboy" title.
This song tells the story of their victory...
"Waiomina."
♪♪ ♪♪ (singing in Hawaiian) ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ This next song is a classic hula written by one of the legends of slack key and Hawaiian composition, Auntie Namakelua.
We feature now the hula stylings of Miss Makanani Ah Sing from Ka Pa Hula O Kauanoe O Wa'ahila Una, one of the famous hula troupes here in Hawai'i, with a song entitled "Nani."
♪♪ ♪♪ (singing in Hawaiian) ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ "Lumaha'i" is a song that we learned together while attending high school.
And it tells of the torrential rains of Hanalei on the island of Kauai, as well as the slippery limu, or seaweed, of Manuakepa.
This song, "Lumaha'i."
♪♪ ♪♪ (singing in Hawaiian) ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ Anybody who knows us knows that we're a very carefree group and often silly at times.
And we were looking for a song that could capture that free spirit, that playfulness that we try and get across to people.
And what better choice than this song, which speaks of a girl who's very generous, while handing out her very sweet and ripe papaya.
This song by Harry Owens, "Princess Poopooly."

It tells of the very enchanting, seductive mermaid, "Kananaka."
♪♪ ♪♪ (singing in Hawaiian) ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ I composed this next song for a very special friend of mine, Auntie Lani D'Agostino, who has since passed.
She's compared to a graciously gliding bird who flies above the floor of Palolo Valley.
We feature now Miss Aloha Hula 2003, Jennifer Kehaulani Oyama, with "Ka Manu Kihaha "Olu."
