In October 2016, Hurricane Matthew hit North Carolina. Robeson County is the largest geographic county in the state and suffered the most damage. Months after the hurricane, all but one of their schools have been able to return to their buildings. West Lumberton Elementary, a low-income, high-performing school has been combined with Lumberton Junior High as they wait to see what will happen.
