About "Spain Made With Love"
SPAIN MADE WITH LOVE, the newest episode of the Emmy Award-winning Made with Love series, explores the wonders of this Southern European nation, shaped for centuries by diverse cultures, intense pride, and a deep well of creativity.
From the bustling streets of Madrid to the rugged countryside, the program celebrates artisans who practice many forms of creative expression — from embroidering flamenco dresses in Seville to fashioning classic berets from one piece of wool, from crafting traditional Basque walking sticks to fine leather bags that last a lifetime.
Some of these Spanish artisans have taught themselves traditional techniques, while others have absorbed knowledge passed from one generation to the next. In Granada, Miguel Ruiz Jiménez creates “Golden Pottery,” transforming ceramic objects into stunning works of art, while master marquetry artisan Jesús Molero continues a business founded by his grandfather in 1888. In Toledo, a third-generation blacksmith uses classic tools to repair ironwork and keep locks working at the13th century Cathedral of Toledo, and a sister and brother create intricate Damascene jewelry, an ancient craft. And a family in Seville prepares for Holy Week by gilding religious figures that will be carried in a procession through the streets, a tradition dating back to the 16th century.
Whether these creators are handweaving garments on a traditional loom, using natural dyes from flowers and plants to make beautiful textiles, or whipping up a perfect paella, their love of design, hunger for creativity, and dedication to their homeland shine through in everything they make.
